It’s easy to fall into a pattern. Habits is what we call them. It’s what every person has.
Whether you have good habits or bad ones, you will always have them. But are the habits that you have helping you to be the person you want to be? Are they helping you to get to where you want to be in life?
If the answer is no, then that means you have identified an area in your life that you know needs to change or that you may want to change. But, change isn’t always easy.
They say that it takes 20-30 days to get rid of a bad habit and to get into a solid routine, and I know that this can only really be achieved with constant drive, determination and consistency, but is that really all?
Why do we often give up half way through? Why do we find it difficult to stick to our “new years resolutions”?
Well the answer to this is with one simple question. What are you focusing on the most when trying to achieve change in your life? Are you focusing on what you can’t do? What you shouldn’t do? or are you focusing on where you want to be? Do you have clear goals and a way of getting there?
Yes, drive and determination and of course, consistency are so valuable to you in becoming the person you want to be, but if you don’t believe you can or keep reminding yourself about where you used to be then progress will be very slow for you and you may even stop trying altogether.
I read a quote by Socrates which revealed to me the secret of change. He said:
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” – Socrates
So instead of focusing on where you are, focus on where you need/want to be and keep working towards your goals. Very soon, the change you want to see will occur.
Remember, whatever you think you can’t, you’re right. Whatever you think you can, you’re right. Whatever you think, you will eventually become because you will start to form habits and act accordingly to whatever you continue to tell yourself.
If you think you’re not special and won’t amount to anything, then you’re absolutely right because trying to achieve wouldn’t even be something you would be willing to attempt.
You are special, unique and can succeed in life. You can achieve your goals and reach your dreams if you put your mind to it and believe it. Then you will become it.
